SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Keep Fit, Stay Healthy Program

The Keep Fit, Stay Healthy program is an initiative to assist the youth of the Blenheim community to turn off the screens and put down their phone for a short period of time daily and participate in a healthier more active lifestyle. This will allow for youth and community to interact and promote a healthier lifestyle together.

Helping Hands Program

Youth are available afterschool during the week to assist community members in need with small jobs around their homes. Leaf raking, snow shoveling, stick pick up, and even to carry in groceries. This service is FREE of charge, simply call and register your address and phone number and call when you have a job that needs to be done. We will round up the number of youth needed for the job and send them over!

Public Health Nurse

The BYC has teamed up with the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit to be able to provide a Sexual Health Clinic on site at the BYC. The health nurse is available on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from 2-4 pm on a walk-in basis.  Clinic appointments are also available through the health unit and can be scheduled at our facility on certain days. This service is open to the public as well.
Sexual Health Clinic services include.

Please note the BYC does NOT make appointments. Please call the CK Public Health Unit directly at 519.352.7270.

Homework Help

We currently have Wednesday’s scheduled for after school homework help. The youth of the BYC are encouraged to bring in their homework and we give them a quite space to work on it. The staff and volunteers are available to assist the youth with any questions they may have, or if they require proof-reading done to their work. We also are able to provide them with a printer when doing school projects or reports.

After High School Prep Program

Whether youth are looking to attend post-secondary education, apprenticeship prospects in a skilled trade or go directly into the workforce the Staff at the BYC are on hand to assist them in the planning stages of these activities.

It can be overwhelming trying to organize to do items with deadlines, manage finances, write resumes and finding housing. Our goal is to ease this stressful time and prepare the senior students for what lies ahead after high school.

Cooking/Snack Program

Twice a week our youth participate in a meal planning program where they decide on supper for the night on a budget determined by the staff. They are responsible for all aspects of the meal (with help from staff and volunteers) preparing the ingredients, cooking or baking and clean up afterwards.

BYC Gives Back

Once a month the youth head out into the community to acknowledge the support we (the BYC) receive from our community. We have handed out flowers, candy apples, rice crispy treats and bake regularly for the local soup kitchen. This is a small way we can say thank you for all the support we receive.
